Get Involved Your relationship with your church community will be enhanced by becoming involved in a service that suits your skills and talents. At Skyland there are many ways to become involved and help. Below are just a few options. Call the church office for more information at 684-7283.
The task of the Administrative Board is to provide vision, make decisions, and equip the church to fulfill God's mission for Skyland UMC. This group meets the 4th Monday of every other month. Please click here for a complete list of members and all of the duties of the board.
Bulletin Folders
Volunteers needed to fold and stuff the weekly bulletins/newsletters for Sunday's service. In addition, once a month, we have a "bulk" mailing of the bulletin to the church members. This mailing includes the next month's calendar, list of weekly "servers", birthdays and anniversaries. Anyone volunteering for this should be available anytime from Wed. afternoon through Friday morning in case they are needed. Please call Beulah Sketo for more information. What keeps the church moving? The bus drivers do! We provide transportation from Givens to the church and back for most events and transportation for outings when needed. We are always looking out for new bus drivers with a class B license. Don't have it? Let us help you get yours. Please contact Jim Nichols if you are interested in being a bus driver, being on the committee to coordinate the drivers or would like more information. Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the effective management of church property, equipment and investments. The trustees also receive and administer all gifts, insure articles of incorporation are kept up to date, oversee use of the church buildings/grounds, maintain adequate insurance coverage on all church property, prepare annual budget for afore mentioned items, and be accountable to charge conference and administrative board. Recently the trustees have been working on renovations to the church facilitates, specifically the fellowship hall to accommodate contemporary worship service, new bathrooms, negotiate purchase of adjacent property, upgrading sanctuary sound system, facilitated creation of food pantry in chapel area, and plans for new banner storage area. The Endowment Committee monitors the Endowment Fund, educates the church members about the fund and ways to contribute, and approves all distributions of the monies. Currently we have an income of $14,000 or more per year that can be used for non-budgetary church needs. This group meets quarterly. Please call Keith Olbrantz for more information.
The Finance Committee are the managers of the church finances. They are the good stewards of God's church. The are currently working on next years budget, operational programming, bathroom and fellowship hall renovations and the recent land purchase. All fundraising ideas of the church must be submitted to the committee for approval. Experts are needed in fixing, construction and financial planning. The committee meets every 3rd Monday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Chapel. Call Robb Baer with any questions.
Providing small group opportunities for members to experience God's love and grow in their faith as they fellowship, study, pray, and serve with others. Recently offered: 1) training sessions for current and prospective small group facilitators; 2) Submitted list of all small groups at SUMC for online publication on church website. Upcoming tasks: 1) Inventory our collection of small group curriculum and submit for online publishing; 2) submit links to other sources of curriculum; 3) Offer further training for facilitators. The committee handles staff - parish relations. They address any concerns of the congregation or staff which relates to performance and/or conflict. Recently sent minister to a 4 times a year program "How to make a great minister out of a good minister". This committee meets quarterly or as needed. Please call Don Sides for more information.
This committee ensures the church has proper personal computer, software, sound systems, networks, etc. to meet the needs of the church. Currently working on networking the music department. For information on the sound system or to volunteer to help, contact Paul Fitzpatrick. For information on the technology committee or to volunteer to help, call Kathy Woods. The technology committee meets as needed.
Facilitates worship services; make people feel welcome to our church during and between Sunday services. We are currently working to become involved with the greeters as a team. More volunteers are needed and welcomed. Please contact Ben Anderson for more information.
The worship committee evaluates the worship services to make sure they are meeting the need of the congregation? Acolyte recruitment and training. Schedule communion preparation. Help plan special services (i.e. Love Feast, etc.) This group has begun reorganizing. Please call Carol Van Dyke for further information. |
