Prayer Shawl Ministry
Greeting Card Ministry Our purpose is to reach those that are ill or in the hospital, send sympathy cards ot family members and thinking of you cards to those that have a person need. After volunteers have signed up to serve on this committee, they are contacted via a phone call and/or a letter with guidelines and procedures. Each person is given a bag with a supply of get well, thinking of you and sympathy cards and 2 stamps and is assigned one or tow months to be responsible to send cards to those in need. The names of those in need are gotten from the Church newsletter, announcements on Sunday or through a phone call. While we don’t meet regularly, months will be assigned for volunteers to cover. Please contact Debbie Cauble for more information. Loving Care Our primary goal it to give assistance to church families in times of stress from illness or death. In some cases we have provided transportation for doctors appointments or treatments. We strive to have enough volunteers to always be available when needs arise. The more people we have on a team the less we have to ask of that team. Meetings are called as needed. Much more help is needed. Please contact Ruth Ingle for more information. Faith in Action Day One Saturday each Spring our congregation participates in service projects on Saturday morning from 8:00 am - 12:00 Noon. Spring 2009 included work at MANNA Foodbank sorting and packing food, visiting residents at the Givens Health Center and also working on church members projects (i.e. washing windows, yard work or minor home repair). This group meets with the council on ministries group every other month. Call Jim Nichols with any questions. Deaf Ministry Our newest ministry of our church is beginning to take shape. The goal of this ministry is to establish a means of discovering a knowledge and relationship with Christ and the Bible for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. We also need a good interpreter to enable people to understand worship services and help them feel a part of the congregation. We are currently working on grants to help fund the ministry. Upcoming plans are to invite interested groups to our church to get to know them. We have recently had the deaf choir from Long's Chapel UMC to sing/sign at worship service. They also helped with a community meeting to get input on ideas for deaf worship/other activities. We are also looking for members to learn ASL sign language. Meeting times for planning are as needed and interested people can get in touch with Diane Rutledge. Small Groups We strongly believe in the growth experience of small groups. We believe in the community connection of growing together in our relationship with Christ through growing (in our knowledge of the bible), serving (in our community) and love (loving God and each other). We have many small groups opportunities and are in constant training of our leaders, searching for topics of growth and new small groups . Please contact Patty Olbrantz to learn of classes to become a leader or ideas for small group activities. Click here to see current small groups in progress. Habitat for Humanity We continue to support a wonderful national program with local roots called Habitat for Humanity. We help local families build low cost housing for themselves and their families. Please see the photo album section under the “About Us’ Link to see pictures of a building session. Pennies for Heifer The 4th and 5th grade Sunday School class children collect change (and roll them) all year round so that once a year they can purchase farm animals for families in third world countries. That way the families can support themselves with milk, eggs, etc. There is a jar in the colonnade for donations and all are welcome. Room in the Inn A program where churches of our area house homeless women for week periods a couple of times a year. Please click here to go to the webpage for Room in the Inn. |
